Chapter Five

As the morning light fell on her face, Astri became dimly aware of arms cradling her half-asleep body. She stirred, feeling a kiss pressed to the nape of her neck before she found herself being rolled onto her back. A mouth breathed warmth over her cunt and automatically her arms reached for his hips, drawing his hard cock toward her face.

No need to think. Just feel. She felt dreamy, barely aware. And safe, truly safe, even though somewhere in the back of her mind reality was tingling…but she held it back. There was no room for that, not now.

It was slow, sleepy. Astri was more aware of sensation than of crude reality—hands caressing her body, tongues darting and stroking, the taste of his pre-cum, the scent of his blond pubic fuzz. Arousal grew steadily, tenderly, until she felt her legs tense and her body tighten, releasing in a soft gasp as his seed slid across her tongue.

The afterglow was interrupted by a shuddering roar from outside.

The mountain-breed.

Astri sat up, instantly on high alert. Somewhere in the back of her mind she registered that Kai’s hand had landed on her bare thigh.

“We need to move. We’re not safe here.”

Kai nodded, sitting up as well. “What’s the plan?”

“How good is their eyesight?”

“Not great. What do you have in mind?”

“Some kind of rope trap. Incapacitate it long enough that I can flame it.”

Kai thought for a moment.

“We might be best with a simple trip-rope. If we find a spot where the earth and the rope are the same color, it probably won’t even see it.”

Astri considered this. She would have preferred something to properly entangle the troll, rather than simply bring it down, but all the traps she knew had been tested on smaller ones. On something this size they might just snap.

But then, a troll on fire wouldn’t just lie on the ground.

“We can’t have him taking off running. If we can’t trap him we need something else.” She shook her head in frustration. “If Lise was here she’d take his eyes out with the crossbow.”

“We’ll have to do that, then.”

Astri looked at him, resisting the temptation to roll her eyes. “I’ll be behind him with the flame-thrower. I won’t have time to run round and aim the crossbow.”

“No, I mean—” Kai’s jaw firmed. “I’ll do it.”
